Stephanie Engels

After a career start in research (ETH and MIT) Stéphanie joined RobecoSAM Sustainability Services where she advised the largest stock listed companies worldwide on their sustainability performance and strategy.

At ewz (energy company) she later on helped to define the vision and strategy to implement a sustainable energy future. As member of the Management Board and Head of Corporate and Business Development she led big transformational projects and programs, was responsible for new (digital) business models (i.e. smart cities, smart homes) and for building new ecosystems with partners and start-ups, as well as for a new innovation hub in Zürich. As a partner at Signum Stéphanie now supports companies in finding and hiring the right leaders for the future.

She holds a Master’s in Environmental Sciences as well as a PhD in International Relations both from ETH Zürich and an MBA from Oxford University.

Entrepreneurial experience

In her work at ewz, Stephanie developed new business models and coached intrapreneurs as well as partner startups. She is experienced in defining new business models with different types of partners (big companies, SMEs and startups) and has co-developed the innovation space Kraftwerk in Zurich with a range of different players.

In her role at Signium, Stephanie works as an entrepreneur and is generating her own revenue streams.

Coaching experience

Coached a number of start-up teams in house at ewz, focusing on smart building cases (developing an energy management system with external start-ups), smart city cases (IoT solutions for predictive maintenance, smart parking, water level measurements) and new technologies AI for prediction modelling in trade. During this time, she also helped a number of ewz intrapreneurs start their own companies. This included projects such as using innovative drones for the maintenance of electric landlines, indoor air quality and participation models for solar plants. In the HR area she worked with start-ups who use big data to help define future role descriptions and other that offer digital training and feed-back solutions.

In 2020 Stephanie coached Startups in the Kickstart Accelerator.
