08.09.2026 | UZH Spin-Off ZuriMED has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by global medical technology company Stryker. The acquisition will bring ZuriMED’s FDA-cleared FiberLocker® System into Stryker’s portfolio, marking an important milestone for the company.
Founded in 2009, ZuriMED specializes in orthopedic biomechanics and biomaterials. Its FiberLocker® System addresses a key challenge in rotator cuff repair by mechanically reinforcing the injured tendon, providing immediate structural support and aiming to improve the stability of the repair and healing process. The FiberLocker® System received FDA clearance in February 2025 and is already commercially available. With the acquisition, Stryker aims to expand its rotator cuff augmentation portfolio and strengthen its offering in shoulder care.

KOVE Medical – Successful Financing Round

03.09.2026 | KOVE Medical, a MedTech spin-off of the University of Zurich and University Hospital Zurich, has successfully closed a CHF 1.6 million financing round. The funding was secured with the support of a syndicate of angel investors and marks an important milestone in the company’s development.
KOVE Medical is developing an amniotic sac closure device designed to reduce the risk of preterm birth following fetoscopic interventions during pregnancy. With the new funding, the company will advance its technology from preclinical development towards First-in-Human (FIH) studies, bringing the solution one step closer to clinical application.
Founder and CEO Yannick Devaud was awarded a UZH Entrepreneur Fellowship in 2019.

22.07.2026 | Novapreneurs has launched as a platform supporting experienced professionals in turning their expertise into entrepreneurial ventures. Through a blended learning programme, practical support and a peer community, Novapreneurs helps professionals navigate the transition into entrepreneurship and provides structured training and resources along the way.
Novapreneurs originated at the University of Zurich Healthy Longevity Center and was supported by the UZH Innovation Hub through the founder's, Burcu Demiray, Entrepreneur Fellowship in 2026. With its official launch, the programme and its resources are now publicly available.

Delta Labs – Successful Seed Financing

07.04.2026 | The UZH Startup Delta Labs has raised EUR 4.4 million in a seed round led by Cusp Capital and Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund. The company develops AI-powered customer simulation tools that help businesses anticipate how customers will respond to decisions before they are made. With this round of funding, they are investing in the further development of Elaiia, their AI-powered customer simulation platform and in the continued expansion of their team.
Delta Labs was founded in 2022 by Anne Scherer, a former University of Zurich professor and Cindy Candrian, who completed her PhD at UZH. The company was awarded the UZH Startup Label.

2025 – Patents, Applications and Spin-offs
23.03.2026 | At the University of Zurich, basic research brings about innovative products and applications that help improve many people’s lives. Researchers filed 27 patent and trademark applications and 57 inventions in 2025, and four new Spin-offs were created. This has resulted in an excellent track record: the number of Spin-offs from UZH since 1999 now stands at 165.

FimmCyte – Strategic Collaboration

16.03.2026 | The UZH Spin-off has entered a strategic research collaboration with Gedeon Richter Plc. to develop a potential new treatment for endometriosis. The project focuses on FMC2, a therapy designed to target the underlying cause of the disease, which affects around one in ten women worldwide. FimmCyte will work with Gedeon Richter to advance the program through preclinical development toward first clinical studies.
Co-founder and CSO Valentina Vongrad was awarded a UZH Entrepreneur Fellowship in 2022.

CUTISS – New Skin for Burn Victims

15.01.2026 | Bio-engineered skin grafts can play an important role in the treatment of burn victims. Researchers at UZH have been working on new approaches for such grafts for over 15 years. This work led to the creation of Cutiss in 2017, a spin-off that produces living skin tissue from the patients’ own cells.
