At a Glance

With the new Minor/LAO in Innovation & Entrepreneurship (30 ECTS), master’s students from all disciplines can enhance their profile with future-oriented skills in an interdisciplinary setting starting in Fall Semester 2026.

This is a unique opportunity to gain the skills needed to become a leader in the corporate world, the innovation economy, the public or non-profit sector, or as founders of their own start-up  and make a meaningful impact.

What can be expected

This three-semester program combines scientifically grounded theory across disciplines with hands-on skills, supported by experts from industry and the innovation ecosystem. In a challenge-based practice project, students develop and realize innovation or startup ideas in interdisciplinary teams. After completing this minor, students will have the ability to make scientifically grounded decisions in innovative organizations.

In the Minor/LAO Innovation & Entrepreneurship students will:

  • Analyze innovations and their mechanisms, and critically evaluate them across different contexts and disciplines.
  • Develop and implement ideas or inventions into practice within organizational, non-profit and start-up contexts.
  • Assess and strategically leverage innovation ecosystems to create impact.
  • Apply teamwork, communication, and leadership skills to develop and realize ideas in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Integrate and refine evidence-based strategies and methods to design sustainable and scalable solutions in real-world challenges.

Moreover, students will become part of a dynamic community and gain access to a cross-disciplinary network of researchers, industry and business partners, and experts from the innovation and start-up ecosystem.

«We want to empower students to boldly turn ideas into action and shape the future,» says Maria Olivares, Head of Innovation at UZH. «The Minor Innovation & Entrepreneurship provides space to learn and experiment, enabling students to develop innovations with real impact through entrepreneurial thinking and interdisciplinary teamwork.»
