Wie bei einer Lokomotive müssen auch die Muskeln beim Gehen gesteuert werden, damit man am richtigen Ort ankommt. Ein Schlaganfall oder eine Rückenmarkverletzung können diese Steuerung beschädigen. Durch Gangtraining kann das Gehen aber oft wieder erlernt werden. Der Lokomat® ist der erste Gangroboter der Welt, der Patienten dabei hilft. Das von Hocoma produzierte Medizinprodukt stellt mit einem individuell einstellbaren Exoskelett und einer dynamischen Körpergewichtsentlastung ein physiologisches Gangmuster sicher. Der Lokomat® wurde 1999 an der UZH entwickelt. Heute wird er in Hunderten von Kliniken weltweit in der Rehabilitation eingesetzt.

Like a locomotive has to be controlled to get you to the right location, muscles have to be controlled during walking. A stroke or spinal cord injury can damage this control. Gait training often allows re-learning to walk. The Lokomat® is the first gait training robot that helps patients with this. This medical device – manufactured by Hocoma – uses an individually adjustable exoskeleton and dynamic body weight support to ensure a physiological gait pattern. The Lokomat® was developed at UZH in 1999. Today it is used for rehabilitation in hundreds of hospitals and clinics around the world.
