The gravitational force has been constant throughout the 4 billion years of Earth's evolution and probably played a crucial role in the evolutionary development of all organisms and their cellular architecture and function. Integrative investigation of cellular, molecular and biomechanical processes under Earth’s gravity and the force-free conditions of microgravity will contribute to understand if and how far Earth’s gravity is required for regulation and homeostasis of the human organism, cell function, genomic stability and gene regulation homeostasis.

Microgravity research has led to breakthroughs in fundamental research and in industrial applications in physics. Medical research in space has significantly enriched and advanced modern medicine and medical technology. Microgravity is a unique tool for new research and production methods in pharmacology, tissue regeneration and in developing alternatives for animal experiments.
